Guiding Opinions on the Prevention and Control Technology of Corn Diseases and Pests

Affected by various factors such as extensive straw returning, dense planting cultivation, high temperature and heavy rain, typhoons, etc., the degree of damage caused by southern rust disease, ear rot disease, and ear stage boring pests in corn has increased in recent years, which has become an important factor restricting the large-scale yield improvement and quality improvement of corn. In order to strengthen the prevention and control of diseases and pests in the middle and later stages of corn, promote the increase of corn yield on a large scale, and ensure the safety of corn production, the National Agricultural Technology Center has formulated this technical guidance for prevention and control.

Southern rust disease, ear rot disease, and ear stage carnivorous pests of corn are preventable and controllable, and must adhere to the principle of "prevention first, comprehensive control", based on prevention, classification guidance, and zoning policies. On the basis of selecting resistant varieties reasonably in the early stage, strengthening healthy cultivation and field management, with the goal of preserving functional leaves, promoting yield increase, and reducing toxins, two prevention and control measures of "pre pressure and post control" will be implemented. One is to seize the period from the big horn mouth to the tasseling stage, combined with the prevention and control of leaf spot disease, corn borers, cotton bollworms, peach borers, grassland armyworms and other low pathogen infection bases, in order to reduce the number of pests eating fruit ears; The second is to seize the period from silk emergence to milk maturity, combined with the "one spray multiple promotion" of corn, by mixing and spraying fungicides, insecticides, and plant agents (inducers), etc., to reduce the probability of pathogenic bacteria infecting the ear through the damage of the silk and insect mouth, effectively controlling the risk of ear boring pests and ear rot.
